ARKANSAS SNOWGOOSE HUNTING TRIP FAQs

FAQs
• Our season starts Feb 1 in Arkansas and normally presents every type of weather and field and road conditions before we move North in early March. The hunting is good throughout the season but varies considerably from day to day with the weather. Be prepared to hunt in anything from 70 degrees and dry to 20 degrees and snowing or raining. Potentially in the same 3 day stretch. It is highly recommended that you bring full rain gear and waders, Northeast Arkansas is all a swamp and dry fields turn quickly to wet and muddy when it starts raining. Expect mud at some point every day and ask your guide about field conditions before each hunt.
• We generally hunt all day unless your group wants to do otherwise.
• Plan to bring at least 4 boxes of shells to the blind every day that you’ll be here if not more. Some days you won’t need nearly that, but in extreme cases we shoot over a case per man per day and shells can be hard to come by in rural AR mid-season. Our guides all shoot 12 gauge 3” BB and #2 shells, and that is what we would recommend you bring.
• Bring coolers and plan to buy ice to store birds as it is often warm, even at night.
• Plan to eat lunch either in the field or in a local diner each day (discuss this with your guide before each hunt). We are often 45 minutes or more from the motel, so returning there is not always practical.
• Everything will be set in the field when you arrive, however you may be asked to help brush blinds and straighten up decoys and equipment throughout the day. If the wind changes, you will be expected to help your guide adjust blinds accordingly. The faster and more thoroughly you assist your guide in completing these tasks, the more birds you will shoot. Snowgoose hunting is a massive undertaking, and must be a team sport to be successful.
• Anticipate firearm failures due to high volume shooting in dirty conditions and possibly inclimate weather. Bring spare guns and oil to the field, we have empty blinds to hide this gear in.
• Anticipate some large flocks of birds. Semi-automatic shotguns with magazine extensions help capitalize on these opportunities, most of our guides use Nordic Components magazine extensions.
• We normally leave the hotel 2 hours before daylight and normally hunt until near dark. Headlamps and other preparations for low light conditions are must.
